Carnegie Hill is the Upper East Side's most exclusive neighborhood, centered around East 91st to East 96th Street between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue. Named after philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, who built his mansion on Fifth Avenue, Carnegie Hill remains one of Manhattan's most desirable addresses. The neighborhood is characterized by elegant brownstones, cultural institutions, and families with deep roots in Manhattan society. Fifth Avenue anchors the western edge with Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art as neighbors.
Carnegie Hill is quiet and residential, distinct from the busier Upper East Side neighborhoods to the south. Families here value privacy, education, and cultural engagement. The Lexington Avenue line provides convenient transit access. Multiple museums, galleries, and cultural institutions are within walking distance. For working families, the subway provides quick access to job centers across Manhattan.

A Curriculum Built Around How Children Actually Learn

At Sunshine Learning Center, we follow the Creative Curriculum, a research-backed, nationally recognized early childhood framework that puts hands-on, play-based learning at the center of everything we do. Unlike rigid, one-size-fits-all programs, Creative Curriculum is designed to meet each child exactly where they are developmentally and help them grow at their own pace.
Our teachers use this framework to create structured yet flexible lesson plans that integrate four core developmental areas:
Problem-solving, critical thinking, and early math and science concepts introduced through exploration and discovery
Building vocabulary, early literacy skills, and the confidence to express ideas through stories, songs, and conversation
Fine and gross motor skills developed through active play, art, sensory activities, and outdoor experiences
Learning to share, collaborate, build friendships, and manage emotions in a supportive classroom community
We believe that the best early education is rooted in how children naturally develop, not in what adults think children should do.

Programs for Every Age and Stage

Infants (6 weeks - 12 months)
Our infant program provides individualized, responsive care from consistent caregivers. Personal cribs, clean diaper and feeding areas, and a shoe-free environment create safety and cleanliness. Babies experience sensory play, music, language-rich interaction, and abundant physical affection supporting early development and secure attachment.
Toddlers (1-2 years)
Toddlers need structure combined with freedom to explore. Our classrooms offer a carefully prepared environment where toddlers can investigate safely and confidently. We introduce early concepts through play and sensory activities, support emerging language, and nurture growing independence and self-expression.
Early Preschool (2-4 years)
Early preschool is a period of rapid growth and social development. Our classrooms are organized into learning centers for literacy, math, science, art, and dramatic play. Children work collaboratively with peers, develop early academic skills, and build the social competencies needed for kindergarten.
Preschool and Pre-K (4-6years)
Our pre-K program ensures kindergarten readiness across all developmental domains. We incorporate phonics, writing, math, science, and critical thinking into joyful, play-based activities. Art, music, movement, and outdoor exploration remain essential, ensuring balanced development.
